Boardman's Height Rules for Backyard Decks

In Boardman, an attached side- or rear-yard deck with a walking surface more than 18 inches above the ground may reach no more than 30 feet from the house and must sit at least 25 feet from the rear lot line. Other decks sit at least 10 feet from the rear line, keep the walking surface within 2 feet of grade, and top out at 8 feet. Decide the deck's height before its size.

On September 4, 2022, a township fire station gauge recorded 4.2 inches of rain in a little over two hours, and stormwater backed into homes through basement floor drains. The township has had three 500-year to 1,000-year storms between 2018 and early 2026. Weigh that history before finishing a basement floor.
