The city zoning department requires a permit whenever a building or structure is altered, while minor repairs do not require one. A remodel that changes the house falls on the permit side of that line, so plan for the permit before work starts.

Ohio exempts a deck from building approval only when it is no larger than 200 square feet, sits no higher than 30 inches above grade, stands apart from the house, and is not the way out through a required exit door. The city's zoning permit still applies.

The National Weather Service radar estimated 1.50 to 2.50 inches of rain over much of the area on July 5, 2026, mostly in 30 minutes. EPA says it is important to dry water-damaged areas within 24 to 48 hours to prevent mold, and absorbent materials such as ceiling tiles may have to be thrown away if they become moldy.
